Looking for some ideas for a Waldorf Inspired Morning Basket? Here are a few ideas to get you started! I will try to find links to all of these for you at the end of this post.

For our Waldorf Inspired Morning Basket this Autumn we have some poetry, Geography, a read-aloud (of course!) with a sprinkle of etiquette. Also, because we are Christians, we always have a Bible and hymnal or Christian songs printed on copy paper.

Bible and two different hymnals in a stack.

During our morning time we also sometimes sing the “days of the week” and the “months of the year” songs, as we still have a “little” in the group.

For one of our poetry books we have The Waldorf Book of Poetry. This book is a collection of many different poems from many different sources. Poems about numbers and math, classic poems, Patrick Henry’s famous speech, Paul Revere’s Ride, The Declaration of Independence, Poems by Thomas Hood and many, many more! It is a wonderful collection to be sure!

children's poetry book

Next we have Classic Poems For Children. This one keeps to mainly shorter poems. Beautiful poems about animals and nature and some others mixed in.

a book of Aesop's fables

Who doesn’t love Aesop’s Fables?? What a wonderful way to teach various lessons to children through stories! I highly recommend adding this one to your collection!

Children's geography book

This is a beautiful book as well. We have been enjoying this approach to geography. Topics like this one are easy to teach to a group of kids, especially if they are close in age, although that is not a prerequisite. This book is to be used as a read-a-loud and has questions at the end of the chapters to ask the children about what they’ve learned.

children's book of manners.

This is a collection of manners for boys (it’s okay to call me old fashioned. But I hope for my boys to grow up to be men of good character and… well mannered!) Mostly this “manners stuff” comes up in day-to-day life and you don’t have to have a book on the subject, normally. This is nice though to read out loud from occasionally and may provoke conversations on topics you may not otherwise think of.

The last, but not least addition to our Waldorf inspired morning basket is “The Way Of Gnome; The Tales of Limindoor Woods”. This is a cute story about a boy named Gus who discovers gnomes in a magical forest. This is the first in a series of 5 books. We are enjoying this so far. A really sweet story!
